SPEAKER_00:

I never thought I would be hosting a podcast on philosophical topic. Nonetheless, I wish I had been introduced to philosophical studies earlier in my life. Since 2012, I have been listening to a lot of different podcasts. They're mostly history podcasts. I love history. And whenever I have time, I'm listening to my narrative or related podcast knowledge. In my opinion, the worst podcast out there is better than most unrealistic podcasts. imaginary TV series or movies. I'm serious. I'm not saying that I am not seeing any TV series or movies, but my preferences always goes to podcasts. But why philosophy? I'm not philosophy major. I never took any philosophy credit in the college. No, I didn't study on my own until lately. I am fascinated with this subject because of how deep this profession change humankind. I was talking to one of my friends about some scientific myth. He keeps repeating himself. Scientists say that, or scientists prove that, look like 100% real thing. In mathematical formula, it is always same result, 2 plus 2 equals 4. But this is not what science is. Science is process of learning and discovery, and something we learn that what we thought was right is wrong. To say that science is true or permanent is like saying that marriage is permanent. At the best, it is a bit off key. Marriage today is very different than what was in the 16th or 18th century, and so most of it are laws of nature. Scientific theories are not perfect replicating of reality. but we have good reason to believe that they are capturing scientific element of it. And experience remind us that when we ignore the fact, it soon or later come back to bite us. I know I can talk forever about these topics. Do you also know before any science was founded as we know it today, And there are tons of them, science and branches of science like math, geometry, physics, chemistry, medicine, Joris Poorten are few. Was philosophy give birth to all of them? Let me repeat it one more time. Philosophy give birth to all sciences we have available today. It is big, isn't it? If you know a little bit about philosophy, you will see how fragile it is. Do you still think science is solid? You know Charles Darwin and his book, The Origin of Species? You know he barely was a scientist, but they always put him in the category of philosopher. You know why? Because there is a lot of or many buts and ifs in his theory. You think only science came out of philosophy? No, every religion you see survive in history is because of philosophy. This philosophy enrich every faith today. Pseudo-Dionysius, St. Augustine, Boethius are a few of intellectual colossus in Christianity. In Islam, we have Farabi, Everson, Ben Khaldun. In Jewish religion, we have Ben Gabriel, Yuri Halifia, and Maimonides. And these are only a few of hundreds of philosophical giants who shaped the religion as it is today. You think the Christianity you see today came out of Jesus Christ's life? Or Islam came out of Muhammad Hadith? Avicenna is a giant philosopher in Islam tradition. He built a lot of fundamentals for Muslims all over the world. But he didn't learn it from Islam. He learned it from Aristotle. Aristotle wasn't Muslim or Christian or not a Jew. He was pagan. I'm not getting more into it, but the bottom line is philosophy is essential. and all of us should study it and experience it. My name is Reza Sanjide. I am the host of the podcast Tandis. No, I'm not talk about the history of philosophy or philosopher for many reasons. I didn't learn philosophy in contextual form, so I don't really think I can capable of doing that. But I will talk about subject matter related to philosophy at the same time related to every one of us lives every day. My next episode and my first episode will be about a book called Scott Mindset by Julia Galef. I hope you will like it.
